چکیده

593 The region downstream of a supercritical collisionless shock, the magnetosheath (MSH), is known to be in a highly disturbed turbulent state [1–3]. The undisturbed solar wind (SW) streams with supermagnetosonic velocity V > c ms at a magnetosonic Mach number up to M ms ~ 15. At the Earth’s bow shock (BS), the SW decelerates to Mach numbers M ms < 1, thermalizes, and, when entering the MSH, is compressed by roughly a factor of 4. The flow downstream of the BS is highly disturbed and turbulent. However, the MSH is not spacious enough for the turbulence to reach a quasi-sta-

Geoeffective jets impacting the magnetopause are very common

The subsolar magnetosheath is penetrated by transient enhancements in dynamic pressure. These enhancements, also called high-speed jets, can propagate to the magnetopause, causing large-amplitude yet localized boundary indentations on impact. Possible downstream consequences of these impacts are, e.g., local magnetopause reconnection, impulsive penetration of magnetosheath plasma into the magne...

Low-frequency waves in the Earth’s magnetosheath: present status

The terrestrial magnetosheath contains a rich variety of low-frequency ([ proton gyrofrequency) fluctuations. Kinetic and fluid-like processes at the bow shock, within the magnetosheath plasma, and at the magnetopause all provide sources of wave energy. The dominance of kinetic features such as temperature anisotropies, coupled with the high-b conditions, complicates the wave dispersion and var...

Strong bulk plasma acceleration in Earth’s magnetosheath: A magnetic slingshot effect?

[1] In the near-Earth environment, strong bulk plasma accelerations are frequently taken to be the diagnostic of the occurrence of magnetic reconnection. In this letter, we report new and unambiguous spacecraft observations and corresponding magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulation of strong bulk plasma acceleration in the terrestrial magnetosheath during low Alfvén Mach number solar wind condition...

On the generation of magnetosheath high-speed jets by bow shock ripples

[1]The terrestrial magnetosheath is embedded with coherent high-speed jets of about 1RE in scale, predominantly during quasi-radial interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). When these high dynamic pressure (Pdyn) jets hit the magnetopause, they cause large indentations and further magnetospheric effects. The source of these jets has remained controversial. One of the proposed mechanisms is based on...

Using system dynamics approach to identify factors affecting energy consumption and CO2 emissions in urban transport: A Case Study of Tehran

The current trend of rising energy consumption in the world has hit mankind with two major crises: first, environmental pollution, and second, the acceleration of finishing energy supplies. Energy storage and reduction of pollutants in the city plays a crucial role in the process of maintaining existing energy. Meanwhile, the transportation sector needs attention due to its importance and posit...
